‘No More Coronil Trademark’, Patanjali Fined Rs 10 Lakh by Madras HC for Chasing Profits amid Covid-19 Fear

In June, Ramdev claimed that coronil covid-19 can cure patients. However, the Ministry of AYUSH immediately banned the sale of it and allowed it to be sold only as a drug to increase immunity.

Mumbai: Yoga guru Ramdev has claimed that his company, Patanjali Ayurved, is getting a demand of 10 lakh packets every day for the controversial drug Coronil, which increases the immunity of Kovid-19. Ramdev said on Wednesday that this Haridwar-based company is struggling to meet the demand, as it is currently able to supply only one lakh packets every day.

Could also keep a higher price for medicine: Ramdev

Baba Ramdev, the chief of Patanjali Yogpeeth, said on Wednesday, “Today we have a demand of 10 lakh packets of coronil daily and we are surpassing the supply of only one lakh”. Could, but he did not.

Ramdev said, “Patanjali Ayurved has priced it at only 500 rupees. In the era of corona virus epidemic, if we had charged more, even Rs 5000, we could have easily earned Rs 5,000 crore. But we did not do that.” Ramdev was addressing a program called ‘Atma Nirvar Bharat – Vocal for Local’ organized by industry body Assocham through video conference.

All India Radio News Twitted, “Madras High Court imposes a fine of Rs 10 lakh against Patanjali Ayurved and the Divya Mandir Yog Trust for the unauthentic claim that its Ayurvedic formulation #Coronil could cure #COVID19.”

There was a dispute over medicine

Earlier in June, Ramdev claimed that coronil covid-19 can cure patients. However, the Ministry of AYUSH immediately banned the sale and later the Union Ministry said that Patanjali can only sell this product as an anti-inflammatory drug and cannot be sold as a treatment for Kovid-19. “We have made our cow’s ghee an annual brand of Rs 1,300-1,400 crore,” he said. The estimated turnover of the Patanjali Group is around Rs 10,500 crore.
