Thane: 5 individuals have been arrested on prices of unlawful extraction of sand from a creek in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police mentioned on Sunday.
Appearing on a tip-off, a crew of police and income officers performed a raid on the creek in Kasheli space right here on Saturday night time and nabbed 5 individuals for allegedly indulging in unlawful dredging of sand, a senior police official mentioned.
Three different accused escaped by swimming within the waters, he mentioned.
The accused have been charged underneath Indian Penal Code Sections 379 (theft), 439 (deliberately operating vessel aground or ashore with intent to commit theft) and 34 (frequent intention), and provisions of the Maharashtra Land Income Code, 1966, the official mentioned.
The raiding crew destroyed seven barges and as many suction pumps used for the unlawful dredging of sand.
