Covid-19 Update: Health Ministry Warns, “Use of N-95 masks with Valved Respirators can be harmful to COVID-19 prevention”

Due to the ongoing corona pandemic, it is not allowed to go public places without wearing a face mask as it protects you from the deadly disease. But, recent reports suggests that wearing one (N95 mask with respiratory valves) can be detrimental too.

Indian health ministry on Monday warned against the “inappropriate utilization of N95 face masks, particularly those that contain respiratory valves”. Director General of Health Services Rajiv Garg urged people to utilize homemade face masks.

The the Director-General of Health Services, Rajiv Garg has written to all the states and union territories, “It is to bring to your knowledge that the use of valved respirator N95 masks is detrimental to the measures adopted for preventing the spread of coronavirus as it does not prevent the virus from escaping out of the mask”

Thus, the ministry has urged people to utilize home-made face masks. If you don’t have one, you can utilize any cotton cloth that covers your face appropriately without leaving any gapes on the sides. Moreover, don’t forget to wash that clothes in a boiling water at least 5 minutes after every use. It is necessary to prevent getting the disease.

The letter urges people to practice the actual use of face coverings and masks, and ignore the practice of the wrong measures like the use of N95 masks.

There are a plenty of videos are available on the Internet about how to wear a face mask and dispose of. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), you should wash your hands with either soap or alcohol based hand sanitizer and water for a minimum 20 minutes before wearing a mask. Make sure, your face mask fits properly and covers your nose, mouth & chin. Do not touch your mask while you are wearing it.

At the time of taking it off, at first make sure to clean your hands with either soap or alcohol based hand sanitizer and then remove it. However, you must replace your mask every 8 hours and avoid to wear a wet mask. Also Notably, never ever share your face mask with anyone even if you are sure the person is covid negative.
